INSTALLING VLC MEDIA PLAYER IN RHEL 7

Installing a VLC player in RHEL 7 requires 50 dependencies to resolve and resolving each and every dependencies one by one is a time consuming method .Here, is a shortcut method to install a vlc player by downloading a scripts.

Follow the steps given below:-

Step 1- switch user to “root” account  to execute the vlc installation script.

Step 2- check your system architecture with the command “uname-i”.

Step 3-Download the script for VLC installation from the link given below:-

http://www.tejasbarot.com/Scripts/vlc6-installation.sh

 

Step 4-Save this script, by default this script will be saved into Download directory, under root’s home.

Step 5-Enter into the Download directory where you have saved your downloaded script with the command given below:-

[root@station ~]# cd Downloads/

Step 6- Make this script as a executable file with the command given below:-

[root@station Downloads]# chmod +x vlc6-installation.sh

 

Step 7- Execute this script by the method given below:

[root@station Downloads]# ./vlc6-installation.sh

 

Step 8- Once executing this script, it will ask you at 4th option about your system architecture and 5th option for abort the execution.

Press (R32) to Install VLC on RHEL 7.x on 32bit

Press (R64) to Install VLC on RHEL 7.x on 64bit

Step 9- Press the respective keys as per your system architecture (Checked in step 2).

Step 10- Installation complete and to run VLC player you have to login as a normal user because we can’t run VLC as a root user.

Step 11- Click on Applications -> Sound and Video -> VLC player.
